How to choose your first cot?

The moment when your child outgrows their baby cot is, for many parents, a symbol of a new stage in life. More independence, more movement, new evening routines. Choosing the first “big” bed is not just a matter of interior design, but above all of your child’s safety and comfort.

Time for a change – how do you know when the moment has come?

In most cases, the right time comes between 18 and 36 months of age. The child starts to move more, climb, and independently get in and out of bed. This is a clear sign that they need a sleeping place where they can feel independent, yet still safe and secure.

Safety and calm with a floor bed

For the youngest children, Montessori floor beds are an excellent choice. Their design-low, stable, and without sharp edges-allows the child to safely get into and out of bed at any time. This solution supports independence while minimizing the risk of falls. At TreeTale, you will find many models in this style, including both simple solid wood beds and house beds.

With or without a safety rail

A safety rail is a wonderful support at the beginning of the independent sleeping phase. It gives the child a sense of security and prevents them from accidentally rolling out of bed at night. At TreeTale, you will find beds with various types of safety rails, allowing you to perfectly adapt the model to your child’s needs and the design of the children’s room.

Upholstered beds with a touch of imagination

If you want to combine functionality with an exceptional design, upholstered beds are an excellent choice. Soft fabrics, colorful covers, and imaginative headboards create a cozy atmosphere and turn the children’s room into a special place. Many of TreeTale’s upholstered beds are also available close to the floor and with a safety rail.

Which size is best to start with?

The most commonly chosen sizes are 140×70 cm or 160×80 cm ideal for toddlers transitioning from a baby cot. If the bed is intended to be used for a longer time, you can also choose a larger model (e.g. 180×90 cm). What matters most is that your child has enough space to feel comfortable and that the bed does not overwhelm the room.

Every child develops at their own pace, and the first “big” bed is an important step toward greater independence and self-confidence. At TreeTale, we believe that safe sleep and beautiful design go hand in hand. That is why we create beds that support children at every stage of their development.
